Ingredients
- 400 gms Toor Daal
- 1 large onion
- 1 tablespoon oil
- 2 tsp cumin seeds
- 1 tsp chopped ginger
- 1 stick cinnamon
- 2 tsp turmeric
- 2 to matoes
- Tarka: 4 tablespoons ghee
- Fresh coriander to serve
- Rice
Instructions
- Select Sauté on the Instant Pot.
- Finely chop the onion and add to the inner pot with the oil and sauté until they start to brown,
- Add the cumin seeds, cinnamon stick, ginger and chopped tomatoes.
- Wash and rinse the toor daal well until the water runs clear, then add this to the inner pot.
- Add 2 litres of water, turmeric and salt to taste, then press cancel and secure the lid.
- Select Pressure Cook, and set the time for 8 minutes. Press Start. When the cooking program finishes, let the pressure release naturally.
- Meanwhile, make the tarka – Finely slice the garlic and fry in the ghee with the curry leaves, red chillies & cumin seeds & temper until the garlic is cooked, be careful not to burn it.
- To serve, pour the tarka over the cooked daal and sprinkle with fresh chopped coriander.
- Serve with rice.
